Remembering Arturo O. Valencia: A Life of Love and Accomplishment
Arturo O. Valencia, affectionately known as “Art,” passed away peacefully at his home on October 27, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, father-in-law, and friend, leaving behind a legacy marked by hard work and deep familial bonds.
Born in North Hollywood to Alejandro and Luisa Valencia, Art’s life exemplified resilience and dedication. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Nellie Valencia, with whom he shared an enduring partnership of over 73 years. Together, they raised four children: Mary George, Arturo Valencia, Andy Valencia, and Becky Trillo. Art’s impact extends beyond his immediate family, as he is survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in his heart.
Passions and Accomplishments
Arturo was not only a family man but also someone who deeply cherished his hobbies. He enjoyed camping trips to Glen Ivy, creating countless cherished memories with his family. An enthusiastic bowler, he competed for over four decades at the Bowl-O-Drome and later at Gardena Bowl. His athletic spirit was also evident in the 1960s when he pitched for a men’s softball league at Torrance Park. Additionally, Art was a skilled pool player, often winning tournaments and gaining a reputation as one of the best in Torrance.
Raised in La Rana, a close-knit community in Torrance, Art attended Torrance High School and later forged a successful career. He dedicated 20 years to Soule’ Steel in Carson before becoming a Master Mechanic at McDonnell Douglas. His precision and commitment to quality earned him respect and accolades throughout his career, reflecting a remarkable work ethic.
A Lasting Legacy
Art was a self-made man who rose from modest beginnings to build a life rich in love and accomplishment. He took great pride in his home, which he meticulously restored and maintained. Each project showcased his craftsmanship and dedication. A voracious reader, he was a lifelong subscriber to the Daily Breeze, taking particular joy in the fact that his sons once delivered that very paper.
Though he is no longer with us, Art’s spirit endures in the stories shared by his family, the lessons he imparted, and the love he gave so freely. His life serves as a reminder of the importance of family, hard work, and passion.
A memorial service will be held at 4 PM on October 27, 2025, at Bethel Baptist Church, located at 1501 W Carson St, Torrance, CA 90501-3934. Friends and family are invited to celebrate the life of a remarkable man who will be remembered fondly.
