Archaeologists Uncover Possible Remains of Noah’s Ark in Turkey
Archaeologists have made a significant discovery in Turkey, using advanced radar technology to identify what they believe could be the remains of Noah’s Ark. Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) analysis has revealed a “chemical imprint,” alongside pieces of wood and the outline of a structure resembling a hall. This find is located in the Durupinar Formation, a site close to Mount Ararat, which is historically linked to the Biblical story of Noah.
The research team, led by independent investigator Andrew Jones from Noah’s Ark Scans, has documented angular formations and a hollow space deep within the mountain. They identified a 4-meter-long corridor that cuts through the formation’s core. The GPR data also suggests the presence of central and side walkways, potentially indicating the layout of the fabled ark. According to the Express UK, the scans have unveiled three distinct layers beneath the surface, consistent with the Biblical account that describes the ark as having three decks.
In an interview with the Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN), Jones emphasized that they do not expect to find a fully preserved vessel. He stated, “What’s left is the chemical imprint, pieces of wood, and the shape of a hall.” The Durupinar Formation lies approximately 29 kilometers south of Mount Ararat and has only been recognized in modern times since a Kurdish herder discovered it in 1948, following heavy rains and earthquakes that exposed its features.
The Biblical narrative indicates that Noah’s Ark came to rest on the “mountains of Ararat” after a 150-day deluge that eradicated all life outside the ark. The formation’s dimensions reportedly align with the ark’s specifications, described in sacred texts as “300 cubits long, 50 cubits wide, and 30 cubits high,” translating to around 155 meters long, 25 meters wide, and 16 meters tall.
This theory has sparked extensive debate among scholars. While some consider the formation to be a natural geological structure, others, including Jones and his team, maintain that it signifies something extraordinary. In further discussions with CBN News, Jones shared additional findings from their ongoing research, revealing angular structures extending up to 6 meters beneath the ground, which may indicate compartments consistent with a man-made vessel.
Jones referenced Genesis 6:14, which instructs to “Make thee an ark of gopher wood; rooms shalt thou make in the ark.” He asserted, “This is not what you’d expect to see if the site were simply a solid block of rock or the result of random mudflow debris. But it is exactly what you’d expect to find if this were a man-made boat, consistent with the Biblical specifications of Noah’s Ark.”
The research team has conducted soil analyses revealing intriguing differences in the grass growing within the boat-shaped formation compared to adjacent areas. William Crabtree, another member of Noah’s Ark Scans, noted that a passage appears to extend from the formation’s tip to its center, wide enough for a person to walk through. Soil testing has indicated that organic matter within the formation is double that of the surrounding earth, with potassium levels approximately 40 percent elevated.
Crabtree explained, “If this was a wooden boat and the wood had rotted over time, we would expect to see elevated levels of potassium, changes in pH, and higher organic content—and that’s exactly what we’re finding.”
The team plans to expand their soil testing beyond the 22 samples already collected, and they are preparing to conduct core drilling and additional GPR surveys at the site. Jones stated, “We want to compare what’s inside the formation to what’s outside. That could give us a much clearer picture of whether this is truly something man-made.”
This discovery comes at a time when investigations into ancient artifacts and their historical significance are increasingly prevalent, further igniting public interest in the stories that have shaped our understanding of history and mythology.
