Mary Tatro Van Tichelt, a beloved member of the Tehama County community, passed away on November 22, 2025, at the age of 69. Known for her kindness, generosity, and deep love for family and friends, Mary leaves behind her husband, Bill Van Tichelt, her son, Walter Van Tichelt, and her cherished granddaughters, Sierra and Violet.

Born on May 19, 1956, Mary dedicated her life to her family and her community. She was the daughter of George and Sally Tatro and the granddaughter of Sam and Rachel Stone. Her siblings, Rachel, George, Sara, Sam, and Betsy, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, will also remember her fondly.

Mary’s life was marked by a strong commitment to her family and the joy she derived from their shared experiences. From raising her granddaughters to caring for her mother, Mary’s devotion was evident in everything she did. Her love for adventure took her hunting and mountain climbing, and she cherished the time spent with her siblings, visiting family, and helping cousins with farming tasks. Mary’s creativity shone through in her crafting of jeans blankets, a cherished gift to many.

Living her entire life on a five-acre property in El Camino (Gerber), Mary had a passion for animals and gardening. Her home was often filled with cows, sheep, goats, chickens, and of course, dogs. Her loyal companion, Duchess the Dog, will miss her dearly.

Bill Van Tichelt was the true center of Mary’s universe. Together, they celebrated each other’s successes and supported one another in pursuing their dreams, all while sharing laughter and joy along the way.

Mary’s impact extended beyond her family. Friends and community members remember her for her unwavering support, and her ability to bring smiles to others’ faces. In her memory, a Celebration of Life will be held on December 28, 2025, from 11:00 to 14:00 at the Molino Masonic Family Center, located at 25020 Tehama Vina Rd, Los Molinos, CA 96055.

Those wishing to honor Mary are encouraged to donate to Deserving Pets Rescue at PO Box 371, Red Bluff, CA 96080, or Mercy Hospice at 1544 Market St., Redding, CA 96001. Alternatively, donations to a charity of choice are welcomed. In lieu of flowers, family requests acts of kindness and support for others, reflecting the values Mary held dear.

Mary Tatro Van Tichelt’s legacy of love, laughter, and compassion will undoubtedly resonate within the hearts of all who knew her.
