The Elizabethton/Carter County Public Library has introduced free line dancing classes aimed at providing an enjoyable way to exercise. These classes, led by local instructor Katie Myers, encourage participants to engage in physical activity while learning to dance.

Maryann Owen, the technology librarian at the library, emphasizes the dual benefits of these classes. “If you’re looking for a fun way to exercise, try it out,” she states. The classes aim to make line dancing accessible to everyone, regardless of skill level. Owen notes, “I’m uncoordinated, I’m slow to learn, and she goes through the steps, and it’s so much fun, and you learn the dance.”

The line dancing sessions are part of the library’s adult services program, which welcomes individuals aged 18 and up. Importantly, participants do not need to be residents of Carter County to attend. Classes are scheduled every Monday and Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to noon, creating multiple opportunities for community members to get involved.

Owen hopes that initiatives like these will highlight the library’s extensive offerings beyond traditional book lending. “It’s sad that so many people don’t understand that our library isn’t just about books,” she remarks. “We have wonderful services here, and they really should come by and check us out.”

For those interested in further details about the library’s services and upcoming events, additional information can be found on their website at eccpl.info or through their Facebook page. The introduction of these line dancing classes demonstrates the library’s commitment to fostering community engagement while promoting health and wellness.
