Beloved Artist and Community Leader Gloria Rosencrants Passes Away

Gloria Rosencrants, a cherished member of the Rochester, Minnesota community, passed away on October 18, 2025, at the age of 94. Known for her vibrant spirit and artistic talents, Gloria’s life was deeply intertwined with her late husband, Ed Rosencrants, who died just months earlier on July 9, 2025. The couple shared an enduring love that spanned over 72 years, marked by a tradition of exchanging heartfelt letters each Christmas.

Artistic Contributions and Community Engagement

Born in South St. Paul, Minnesota, Gloria was the daughter of William and Ann Leimbek. She cultivated her artistic abilities at the University of Minnesota, where she majored in art. Over the years, she earned recognition as an accomplished artist, receiving numerous awards at both local and state levels. Her freelance work included collaborations with K&K Realty, Edina Realty, and the Historical Societies of Rochester and Olmsted County.

In addition to her painting, Gloria expanded her creative repertoire to include quilting and Norwegian Hardanger needlework. For her contributions to cultural preservation, she was honored with the title of Norwegian Cultural Skills Specialist by the Sons of Norway.

Throughout her life, Gloria demonstrated a commitment to youth development as a long-serving leader in the Girl Scouts. She guided her three daughters and countless other girls from the Brownie level to First Class Senior Scouts, instilling in them the confidence and skills to succeed.

A Life Well-Lived in Service and Joy

Gloria’s faith community at Mount Olive Lutheran Church played a significant role in her life. A member since 1960, she actively participated in the Altar Guild and volunteered for various church activities, using her artistic talents to support fundraising efforts. Her enthusiasm extended beyond the church, as she engaged joyfully in social activities, including golf leagues and bridge clubs. Renowned for her dancing skills, Gloria and Ed were often the stars of the dance floor.

Her legacy is one of love, laughter, and generosity. Gloria is survived by her daughters, Robin (Tom) Kleinert, Gail Cook, and Diana (Keith) Kressin, along with five grandchildren: Justin (Heather) Cook, Chris Cook, Teddy Cook, Annie (Mike) Oldenburg, and Jeff (Bryanne) Kleinert. She also leaves behind two great-grandchildren, Henry and Malcolm Oldenburg.

A memorial service honoring Gloria will take place at 11:00 AM on November 15, 2025, at Mount Olive Lutheran Church, located at 2830 18th Ave NW, Rochester, MN 55901. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Mount Olive Lutheran Church or the Girl Scouts of Minnesota. Friends are encouraged to visit local Girl Scout Cookie stands in February to support the organization and share treats with their loved ones.

Gloria Rosencrants will be remembered not only for her artistic achievements but also for her unwavering spirit and the joy she brought to everyone around her. She is now reunited with Ed, perhaps once again dancing side by side.
