Acadiana High School Football Leaders Shine Through Week 9
As the high school football season progresses, the Acadiana area has showcased remarkable talent through Week 9. Players are making significant contributions on the field, with standout performances in rushing, passing, and receiving categories.
Rushing Leaders
The rushing game has been dominated by several exceptional athletes. Leading the pack is Jaden Celestine from Comeaux High School, who has amassed an impressive total of 1,567 yards on 178 carries, scoring a remarkable 24 touchdowns. Following closely is Joachim Bourgeois from Notre Dame, with 1,262 yards on 160 carries and 14 touchdowns. Caiden Bellard from Lafayette Christian also stands out, recording 1,109 yards on 171 carries and reaching the end zone 13 times.
Other notable rushers include Owen Morris of Catholic-NI, who has gained 1,105 yards and scored 17 touchdowns, and De’Maurion Cormier from Kaplan, who has tallied 1,055 yards and 15 touchdowns. The depth of talent is evident, with additional strong performances from players like Hugo Morales of Delcambre and Nathan Diggs from St. Edmund, each making significant contributions to their teams.
Passing and Receiving Standouts
In the passing category, Carson Gurzi of Carencro High School leads with an impressive 2,481 yards on 129 completions from 219 attempts, achieving 27 touchdowns while only throwing 2 interceptions. Close behind is Kross Gillen from Opelousas Catholic, who has thrown for 2,141 yards and 30 touchdowns, with 124 completions from 223 attempts.
The receiving corps has been just as dynamic. Chantz Babineaux of Carencro leads with an impressive 1,160 yards from 46 catches, scoring 13 touchdowns. Following him is Jarrison Reese from Church Point, who has caught 55 passes for 977 yards and 10 touchdowns. Other top receivers include Christian Breaux from St. Thomas More and Cameron Samuels of Abbeville, both making significant impacts for their teams.
The performances of these athletes not only highlight individual talent but also reflect the competitive spirit of high school football in the Acadiana area. As the season continues, fans can anticipate even more remarkable achievements and thrilling matchups in the weeks ahead.
