Lynn Noren Honored with MOHR Legacy Leader Award for Disability Advocacy

The Minnesota Organization for Habilitation and Rehabilitation (MOHR) has awarded Lynn Noren its prestigious 2025 MOHR Legacy Leader Award. This accolade recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the field of disability services. Noren, who recently retired as CEO of Rise, a Fridley-based provider of employment and social services for people with disabilities, played a pivotal role in enhancing opportunities and resources for this community.

Celebrating Outstanding Contributions

Noren’s career at Rise spanned over two decades, during which she championed numerous initiatives aimed at improving the lives of individuals with disabilities. Her leadership has not only influenced policy but has also fostered greater inclusion in the workforce. The award ceremony highlighted her impact and the ongoing need for advocacy in the disability sector.

In addition to Noren’s recognition, Bemidji State University announced its 2025 class of distinguished alumni honorees. Among the recipients are Dr. Kenneth Anderson, an instructor at the Pikos Institute, Christine Imbra, professor emerita at St. Cloud State University, and Tuleah Palmer, president and CEO of the Blandin Foundation. Furthermore, Michael Herbert, professor emeritus of criminal justice at Bemidji State, received the Alumni Service Award.

Recognitions Across Sectors

The Washington County Community Development Agency also celebrated local achievements, awarding Melissa Taphorn the title of Outstanding Professional of the Year. Taphorn serves as the agency’s executive director and has been instrumental in various community development projects. Additionally, the agency recognized Bluestem Apartments in Cottage Grove for its innovative contributions to affordable housing.

In the financial sector, Minnesota Lawyers Mutual Insurance Co. announced the election of Harold Goldner as chair of its board of directors, succeeding John Bowden, who will remain on the board. Goldner, a principal at Friedman Schuman Layser in Fort Washington, Pennsylvania, is expected to lead the organization through evolving challenges in professional liability insurance.

Meanwhile, Värde Partners, a global alternative investment firm, elevated Missy Dolski to partner and global head of Asset-Based Finance. The firm also welcomed Jim Lees as managing director, bringing experience from KKR & Co. Inc. to strengthen their asset-based finance team.

In the legal field, Matthew Ebert joined Ballard Spahr as of counsel in the Minneapolis office, following a notable tenure as a former assistant U.S. attorney for the District of Minnesota. Lindsey M. Pederson also joined Fredrikson in its Corporate, Finance & Securities and Mergers & Acquisitions groups.

In the manufacturing sector, The Toro Co. announced the promotion of Grant M. Young to group vice president of Golf, Grounds and Irrigation. Young will succeed Edric Funk, who has moved into the role of president and chief operating officer. Toro, based in Bloomington, is well-known for its lawn mowers and snow removal equipment.

Celebrating milestones, WSI Sports, a provider of specialty athletic wear based in Eagan, marked its 35th anniversary. The company has catered to high-profile athletes such as Tom Brady and Kobe Bryant, showcasing its impact in the sports apparel industry.

On the nonprofit front, Jeremiah Program, a national anti-poverty organization based in Minneapolis, appointed Amanda Luedtke as the new executive director for its Minneapolis campus. Luedtke brings experience from her previous role as senior division director of Children and Family Services at Catholic Charities of St. Paul and Minneapolis.

In real estate, 45 North Group, a commercial real estate firm located in St. Louis Park, appointed Becky Sonmore as senior project manager, transitioning from a similar position at RSP Architects.

Egon Zehnder, a global leadership advisory and executive search firm, announced the opening of a new office in Minneapolis, further expanding its reach in the region.

These recognitions and appointments across various sectors emphasize the ongoing commitment to excellence and community impact in Minnesota and beyond.
