Shots Fired at CBP Agents in Chicago During Ongoing Operation
BREAKING: Shots were fired at Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents in Chicago’s Little Village neighborhood during an operation targeting illegal immigration. The incident unfolded on November 8, 2023, as agents were conducting law enforcement activities related to the ongoing Operation Midway Blitz.
According to reports, an unidentified male in a black Jeep fired multiple rounds at the agents near 26th Street and Kedzie Avenue. Fortunately, there are currently no reports of injuries from gunfire, but a Chicago police officer was struck by a vehicle and transported to a local hospital for treatment. His condition remains undisclosed.
The shooting occurred as agents detained a young woman, prompting protests from locals who demanded her release. Tensions escalated as protesters followed the CBP caravan, leading to confrontations where some demonstrators hurled bricks and a paint can at the agents’ vehicles. The Chicago Police Department was called to restore order amid the chaos.
In a statement, the Department of Homeland Security condemned the violence:
“This incident is not isolated and reflects a growing and dangerous trend of violence and obstruction. Over the past two months, we’ve seen an increase in assaults and obstruction targeting federal law enforcement during operations. These confrontations highlight the dangers our agents face daily and the escalating aggression toward law enforcement. The violence must end.”
Following the shooting, CBP agents deployed tear gas to disperse the crowd as they continued their operations near 26th and Pulaski. The situation remained tense, with protesters using whistles and car horns to alert others of CBP activities during an attempt to detain another individual near 25th and Sawyers.
As of now, no arrests have been reported, and authorities are actively searching for the driver of the black Jeep involved in the shooting. The escalating violence against federal agents raises serious concerns about safety and law enforcement tactics in urban settings.
This incident not only highlights the challenges faced by federal agents but also reflects the deepening divisions surrounding immigration enforcement in sanctuary cities like Chicago. The situation is developing rapidly, and officials are urging anyone with information to come forward.
Stay tuned for updates as authorities work to restore safety and order in the area.
