Oregon Ducks Struggle with Key Injuries Ahead of Iowa Showdown
The No. 9 Oregon Ducks face a daunting challenge as they prepare to play against the No. 20 Iowa Hawkeyes on November 8, 2025. With their College Football Playoff aspirations on the line, the Ducks are grappling with significant injuries to key wide receivers, notably Dakorien Moore and Gary Bryant Jr.. Moore had already been ruled out for the crucial game, and Bryant’s injury, which occurred in the first quarter, further threatens Oregon’s offensive strategy.
Initially, the Ducks held a slight lead of 9-0, thanks to a safety and a rushing touchdown by Dierre Hill Jr.. However, as the game progressed, the situation worsened for Oregon. Bryant was unable to put weight on his leg after sustaining his injury and was carried off the field. He was later seen walking to the locker room, raising concerns about his availability for future games.
Moore, who entered the week as the team’s leader in catches and receiving yards, had already created a notable void in the lineup. Before the Iowa matchup, Bryant managed four touchdowns and 277 yards from 24 receptions. The absence of both players puts immense pressure on the remaining wide receivers, as well as the overall offensive depth of the Ducks.
In addition to Moore and Bryant, Oregon is also missing Evan Stewart, who has not played this season, and tight end Kenyon Sadiq, compounding the team’s difficulties as they approach the season’s critical final stretch. With limited options, the Ducks may turn to transfer wide receiver Malik Benson, who has recorded 277 receiving yards and three touchdowns this season. Although he has not found the end zone since October 11, his past performances indicate potential for a breakout game.
Coach Dan Lanning commented on the challenges posed by the injuries, stating, “It’s tough when you have an opportunity for a one-on-one. You want to be able to go win it, but they do a good job of finding pressure and having hands on, so it’s a real challenge.” He expressed confidence in Benson’s abilities, stating, “Malik’s proven to be a guy that can take the top off. Gotta take advantage of it if we get the chance.”
Following Bryant’s injury, wide receiver Justius Lowe entered the game. Lowe has played only two games this season, catching three passes for 31 yards. However, his performance in the previous season was impressive, tallying 21 receptions for 203 yards and a touchdown during Oregon’s 13-1 campaign.
A victory against Iowa is crucial for the Ducks, as three of their last four opponents are currently ranked. Winning out is essential for Oregon to secure a spot in the College Football Playoff. Conversely, another loss could significantly jeopardize their postseason hopes.
As the Ducks gear up for this pivotal matchup, the impact of their injuries underscores the unpredictable nature of college football. The team must now rally and adapt to ensure they remain competitive against a formidable Iowa squad.
