Dan Houser Confirms Red Dead Redemption 3 Likely, Expresses Sadness
UPDATE: Rockstar co-founder Dan Houser has just announced that a third installment of the beloved Red Dead Redemption series “will probably happen,” but he expressed deep sadness at the thought of not being part of its development. This revelation was made during a recent interview with podcaster Lex Fridman, igniting excitement among fans of the franchise.
Houser, who played a pivotal role in the storytelling of both Red Dead Redemption titles, emphasized the emotional weight of stepping away from a project he has dedicated nearly 20 years to. “Letting go of something I worked on… for the last 10 or 11 years is a big change. And sad in a way,” he stated, acknowledging the challenge of moving on.
While Houser is thrilled with his new venture at his studio, Absurd Ventures, he indicated that not being involved in a potential Red Dead Redemption 3 is a bittersweet thought. He articulated how the narrative of the previous two games formed a “cohesive two-story arc,” making it particularly poignant for him to consider someone else continuing that legacy.
“It’s probably sadder if someone continued on Red Dead, because it was a cohesive two-game arc,” Houser remarked, confirming his belief that Rockstar will eventually pursue a third title.
Currently, Rockstar is focused on the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6, set to release on May 26, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Despite his absence from this project, Houser expressed confidence in the game’s potential, stating, “The story will be great.” His insights into the excitement surrounding GTA 6 reflect the studio’s careful handling of the franchise’s evolution.
Although Rockstar has not officially confirmed plans for Red Dead Redemption 3, Houser’s comments have sent waves of enthusiasm through the gaming community. Fans are eager to see how the narrative might unfold, especially with Houser’s legacy as a storyteller now hanging in the balance.
As the gaming world awaits further updates, the possibility of Houser’s involvement in a future Red Dead title remains a hot topic. His emotional connection to the series has resonated with fans, making this development feel even more significant.
Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story. The potential continuation of the Red Dead Redemption saga is sure to spark discussions and excitement among players worldwide.
