Molly Ratermann’s Bachelorette Horror ‘Making a Bridesmaid’ Wraps Up
UPDATE: Filmmaker Molly Ratermann has just announced that her highly anticipated horror-comedy, “Making a Bridesmaid,” has officially wrapped post-production. The film, which is set to make its festival debut in 2026, merges humor and horror in a unique narrative that critiques societal pressures on women.
Shot on location in Lake Tahoe, California, “Making a Bridesmaid” follows two estranged sisters, played by Emily Kincaid and Ratermann herself, who embark on what they expect to be a fun-filled bachelorette weekend. However, the festivities take a deadly turn as they become entangled in a real-life murder game, fighting for their lives while competing for bridesmaid positions.
The film has been billed as a mashup of “Bodies Bodies Bodies” and “Bridesmaids”, offering a satirical take on the relentless competition women face in a world where opportunities are limited. Ratermann, who also produces and stars in the film, emphasized the emotional depth of the story, stating,
“It’s a wild, fun ride that digs into fakeness, identity, and rivalry.”
The ensemble cast includes notable talents such as Serra Naiman, Wilder Yari from “The Lincoln Lawyer”, Alex Sgambati from “The Walking Dead”, and Maya Butler from “The Offer”, among others.
Leading the creative team is Sabrina Plisco, President of American Cinema Editors (ACE) and known for her work on “Doctor Strange”. Plisco makes her debut as a producer on this project alongside cinematographer David Newbert, known for “Willy’s Wonderland”.
With the film now picture-locked, details regarding its premiere and sales representation will be announced soon. Ratermann hopes the film will resonate with audiences, stating,
“I hope it sparks curiosity in men about the layers of female socialization, while giving women a chance to laugh—and maybe squirm a little—in recognition of their own experiences.”
As anticipation builds, “Making a Bridesmaid” is set to challenge conventions and entertain audiences with a blend of humor and horror that speaks to the complexities of female relationships. Stay tuned for more updates as this exciting project heads towards its festival run.
