Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Safe After Oklahoma City Home Break-In
UPDATE: Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander confirmed that he and his family are safe following a troubling break-in at their home last week. This incident occurred on Thursday, October 19, 2023, while he played a home game against the Washington Wizards.
“Long story short, everybody’s safe, and that’s all that really matters in the whole thing,” Gilgeous-Alexander stated after the Thunder’s recent victory over the New Orleans Pelicans. “Everything else will come and go, but my loved ones are safe, so I’m OK. I’m happy.”
The break-in took place around 7:45 p.m. when officers from the small enclave of Nichols Hills responded to a report of a burglary at Gilgeous-Alexander’s residence. Local news outlets captured police activity at the scene, but authorities have yet to provide further details on the incident.
“The suspects fled the area prior to police arrival,” said a representative from the Nichols Hills Police Department. “While no arrests have been made, there is no reason to believe the public is in any danger.”
As of now, police have not confirmed whether anyone was home during the break-in or if any possessions were stolen. The incident adds to a concerning trend of burglaries targeting high-profile athletes in recent months, raising alarms about safety and security.
High-profile athletes like Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, Luka Doncic, and Evgeni Malkin have also been victims of similar burglaries. Law enforcement has previously warned that thieves often strike while players are away, particularly on game days when they are less likely to be home.
This alarming pattern has prompted questions about security for athletes and their families. Residents in affluent areas are increasingly concerned, as the value of possessions within these homes makes them prime targets for crime.
The Oklahoma City community is rallying around Gilgeous-Alexander and his family during this unsettling time. As more details emerge, fans are urged to stay alert and prioritize safety.
Authorities are continuing their investigation, and updates will be provided as they become available. For now, the focus remains on the safety and well-being of those involved.
