Community Mourns Loss of Robert Laverne Denison, Jr. at 79

Robert Laverne Denison, Jr., a respected figure in the Cuero community, passed away on January 9, 2026, at the age of 79. Born on October 16, 1946, in Houston, Texas, he was the eldest of ten children in the Denison family and grew up in Victoria, Texas. Denison leaves behind a legacy of both family and contributions to the local economy through his successful career in home building and property development.

A Life of Achievement and Community Impact

Denison graduated from St. Joseph High School before continuing his education at Texas A&M University, where he proudly served in the Corps of Cadets. He began his professional journey working alongside his father at DuPont in Victoria. Eventually, he ventured into entrepreneurship, establishing a successful home building and property development business.

Throughout his career, Denison was known for constructing many custom homes and was instrumental in the development of the Windcrest and Highland Hills subdivisions. His commitment to the industry was evident through his involvement with the Builder’s Association of Victoria, where he served as president in 1993. Denison continued to build homes until his retirement in 1999.

Family and Personal Life

Denison is remembered not only for his professional accomplishments but also for his dedication to family. He married Nancy Tolbert, with whom he had two children, Lisa and Brad. After their marriage ended, he married Brenda Helweg, and they remained together until 2004.

A passionate outdoorsman, Denison enjoyed hunting and spending time on his property with his horses. He cherished moments with his grandsons, imparting his knowledge and love for the land. In a touching tribute, Denison named streets in his developments after them, ensuring their legacy would be part of the community.

He is survived by his daughter, Lisa Denison Lively (Matt), and his son, Robert Bradley Denison. His family includes grandsons Mason Lively (Kelly), Andrew Lively, Luke Lively, and great-grandson Hudson Scott Lively. Denison is also survived by his seven siblings: David Denison, Bernie Seal (Robert), Janie Pafford, Mary Rosales (James), Rick Denison, Chris Denison, Joan Bodwell (Lindsey), and Janet Charbula (Glen).

Denison was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Charlotte Denison. A celebration of his life is planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Billy T. Kattan Recovery and Outreach Program, honoring Denison’s commitment to community service.
