Josh O’Connor Dismisses Linguini Role in Live-Action Ratatouille
Josh O’Connor, the star of the upcoming movie Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, publicly addressed fan suggestions for him to portray chef Alfredo Linguini in a live-action adaptation of Ratatouille during his monologue on Saturday Night Live on December 13, 2023. The actor made it clear that he has no interest in taking on the role, despite the enthusiasm from his supporters.
O’Connor explained that his love for the animated film Ratatouille led fans to propose him as a candidate for the live-action version. He stated, “Like one time, I said that one of my favorite movies is Ratatouille, which is true, it’s a great film. But I suppose fans started pitching me as Chef Linguini for a live-action Ratatouille remake.” He humorously admitted that he was unaware of the buzz surrounding this idea until the president of Disney-Pixar publicly declared that a live-action remake would not happen.
Reflecting on the unexpected attention, O’Connor quipped, “Do you know how it feels to be publicly rejected from a job I didn’t even want?” He humorously noted that he does not have the time or desire to participate in a live-action adaptation of Ratatouille, reinforcing his lack of interest.
O’Connor continued to reference Ratatouille throughout his monologue, mentioning his involvement in the new Knives Out film as a potential distraction from the idea of taking on Linguini. “I’m already in the new Knives Out film — saying it out loud sounds like the perfect name for the live-action Ratatouille — but that’s neither here nor there,” he remarked.
In a playful tone, he emphasized the importance of casting in such a beloved film, stating, “You can’t make Ratatouille unless you have the perfect cast. There’s just no point.” He humorously suggested Jeff Goldblum as a fitting choice for the food critic, Anton Ego, while acknowledging the absurdity of the conversation.
O’Connor’s monologue blended humor with a touch of sincerity as he expressed his gratitude for being part of SNL during the festive season. “Being here at SNL during Christmas time is magical and joyous,” he concluded, leaving the audience entertained by his witty remarks and clear stance on the live-action adaptation of Ratatouille.
Overall, the interaction highlighted O’Connor’s charm and comedic timing, while also shedding light on the challenges of fan expectations in the entertainment industry.
