Hy-Vee Donates 300 Hams to Rochester Families in Urgent Giveaway
UPDATE: In a heartwarming initiative, Hy-Vee and Hormel Foods have just given away 300 Hormel Cure 81 hams to local families in Rochester. The event took place from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on December 2, 2025, at the Rochester Armory, aiming to alleviate food insecurity during the holiday season.
The annual “Hams for the Holidays” program, now in its eighth year, is part of a broader effort to combat hunger. This year, the initiative plans to distribute a whopping 5,000 hams across 20 locations in Hy-Vee’s nine-state region.
Chad Launderville, a store director with Hy-Vee, emphasized the importance of community support: “Hy-Vee’s done a lot of great things this year for the community. Between the free meals for kids—serving thousands in Rochester—and donating Thanksgiving bags to Rochester Public Schools, we are committed to making a difference.”
This initiative is crucial as many families face increased challenges during the holiday season. The “Hams for the Holidays” program not only provides a festive meal but also fosters a sense of community and support.
Residents of Rochester are encouraged to participate in this program as it highlights the ongoing efforts to address food insecurity in the area. With the holiday season upon us, initiatives like this remind us of the power of generosity and community action.
