State Senator Greg Goode, an Indiana lawmaker, became the target of a swatting incident on November 19, 2025, as he faces pressure to support President Donald Trump‘s call for redistricting in the state. Local sheriff’s deputies responded to a false emergency report at Goode’s home in Terre Haute, which was linked to Trump’s public criticism of Indiana lawmakers for their hesitance to advance the redistricting plan.

The Vigo County Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies were dispatched after receiving an email alleging harm had occurred at Goode’s residence. Fortunately, officers found that all individuals in the home were safe and unharmed. The incident has been classified as a prank, commonly known as swatting, and is currently under investigation.

Trump’s Redistricting Push Intensifies

Earlier that day, Trump singled out Goode and Rodric Bray, the Indiana Senate President Pro Tem, during statements on his social media platform. He criticized them for failing to act on the redistricting initiative, which aims to reshape congressional boundaries in favor of Republican candidates ahead of the upcoming midterm elections. Currently, Republicans hold a 7-2 advantage in Indiana’s congressional delegation.

“Because of these two politically correct type ‘gentlemen,’ and a few others, they could be depriving Republicans of a Majority in the House, a VERY BIG DEAL!” Trump stated.

Bray announced on November 17 that the Senate would halt its sessions regarding redistricting due to insufficient support from his colleagues, despite ongoing pressure from the White House. Vice President JD Vance has made multiple visits to advocate for the redistricting plan, highlighting the urgency of the matter for the Republican Party.

Goode’s Response and the Political Climate

Goode, a member of the Indiana Senate, has not publicly declared his stance on the redistricting proposal, maintaining that he will not make a decision without reviewing the proposed map and accompanying legislation. His statement on social media following the swatting incident expressed gratitude for the professionalism of the responding deputies and reflected on the volatile nature of the current political climate.

“While this entire incident is unfortunate and reflective of the volatile nature of our current political environment, I give thanks to God that my family and I are ok,” Goode wrote.

The swatting incident underscores the heightened tensions surrounding redistricting efforts nationwide. Democrats are aiming to gain just three additional seats to regain control of the House in the upcoming elections, prompting strategic moves in several states. Republican-led legislatures in states such as Texas, Missouri, North Carolina, and Ohio have already adopted new congressional maps aimed at enhancing Republican prospects.

In contrast, states like California and Virginia are preparing to redraw their maps to favor Democratic candidates, as political maneuvers intensify ahead of the elections.

The ongoing investigation into the swatting incident involving Goode adds another layer to an already complex political landscape, highlighting the significant pressures faced by lawmakers amid strategic electoral shifts.
