Winter Park Doctor Avoids Charges After Party Sends Teen to Hospital
UPDATE: A Winter Park physician will NOT face criminal charges following a controversial house party that led to a **15-year-old girl being hospitalized** last month. **Hao Nhu Tran**, age **51**, was arrested on **October 12, 2023** amid allegations of facilitating underage drinking at her residence on **Chestnut Avenue**.
Authorities confirmed that Tran was accused of allowing minors to consume alcohol during a party, which reportedly resulted in several children being in dangerous situations. Despite the serious nature of the allegations, prosecutors announced in a court filing on **Monday** that they would not pursue charges against Tran, citing that the “evidence at trial will not overcome one or more affirmative defenses.” Details from the filing remain scarce.
Police were called to Tran’s home shortly after midnight on **October 11** after receiving multiple reports of minors “falling down drunk.” When officers arrived, they discovered empty alcohol containers—including brands like **High Noon** and **Smirnoff**—discarded in trash bags in the kitchen. Tran claimed she was hosting a gathering for children from her son’s school, but uninvited minors from other schools also showed up.
During the party, a **15-year-old girl** reportedly lost consciousness due to drinking. Tran found the girl in an upstairs bedroom and ensured she was breathing before contacting the girl’s mother, who then called **911**. Emergency responders transported the girl to a hospital, where she was described as “vomiting and barely coherent” upon arrival. The girl’s mother later informed authorities she did not wish to press charges, although she noted that Tran had initially hesitated to call for emergency assistance.
Tran’s medical practice specializes in **ear, nose, and throat** conditions, according to her profile with **AdventHealth**. The incident has raised serious concerns about parental responsibility and the supervision of minors during social gatherings, highlighting the potential risks associated with underage drinking.
As this story develops, further scrutiny may arise regarding the implications of hosting parties for minors and the responsibilities of adults in such scenarios. Community members are urged to reflect on the potential dangers of unsupervised gatherings, particularly as the holiday season approaches.
