UPDATE: Major disruptions are affecting train commuters this weekend on the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR). Service changes began early on October 7 and will last until 2:15 a.m. on October 9, according to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA).

For passengers on the Port Jefferson Branch, crucial service is suspended between Mineola and Huntington. Shuttle buses are stepping in, operating hourly and stopping at Hicksville, Syosset, and Cold Spring Harbor. Additionally, there will be no LIRR service at Carle Place and Westbury; commuters are advised to use the NICE n22, n24, or n35 buses, which will accept LIRR tickets at no additional cost.

The Ronkonkoma Branch is also seeing significant changes. Trains will only run every two hours between Penn Station and Ronkonkoma, being rerouted via the south shore. Between the Jamaica and Farmingdale stations, trains will change direction twice without making any stops. Commuters are urged to allow an extra 50 minutes for travel to reach their destinations.

Service is also interrupted at Bethpage, and riders should utilize either the Farmingdale or Seaford LIRR stations for their journey.

These service changes come as transit officials undertake essential signal upgrade work in Hicksville. The MTA is actively updating passengers on these developments through their website, ensuring that everyone remains informed during this critical period.

Stay tuned for further updates, and plan your travel accordingly to avoid delays.
