UCLA Recovers Commitments as Recruiting Frenzy Intensifies
URGENT UPDATE: Major shifts in college football recruiting are unfolding as UCLA regains two critical commitments while other teams scramble to secure top prospects. This new wave of recruitment comes just days after significant coaching changes rocked several programs.
On November 6, national recruiting editor Brandon Huffman reported that UCLA, having lost over 10 commitments following the firing of coach DeShaun Foster, is experiencing a turnaround. Linebacker Matthew Muasau and defensive lineman Anthony Jones, both from Southern California, have recommitted to the Bruins, signaling a potential revival for the program.
Further bolstering UCLA’s hopes, top Colorado prospect Toray Davis clarified on social media that he remains committed to the Bruins despite exploring other options. Davis, a multi-sport athlete and frontrunner for state player of the year, plans to take a second official visit to UCLA once a new head coach is appointed. He has already visited Washington and Wisconsin, with upcoming trips to Indiana and Texas.
The recruiting landscape isn’t just shifting in California. In Utah, several high-profile flips have drawn attention, with receiver Kai Meza switching his commitment from Minnesota to Cal. Additionally, linemen Mataalii Benjamin and Daniel McMorris have also flipped from Minnesota to Utah and Cal, respectively.
All eyes are now on Tradon Bessinger, a four-star quarterback previously committed to Boise State, who has received offers from BYU, Iowa, and UCLA. Following his decommitment from Boise, Bessinger is set to visit BYU and UCLA this month, raising speculation about his next move.
The recruiting excitement continues with Hannibal Carter Navies, a three-star linebacker from Georgia, who has flipped from Kansas State to Arizona, citing Arizona assistant coach Alonzo Carter as a key influence. This trend of flips is vital as programs vie for top-tier talent during this crucial recruiting season.
Reclassification is also making waves in college football. Athletes are choosing to advance their academic standings to enroll early. Notably, defensive lineman Marcus Fakatou has reclassified from the 2028 class to the 2027 class, solidifying his status as the top player in California.
In a significant recruiting win for Stanford, mammoth offensive lineman Benjamin Lowther committed to the Cardinal this past weekend, marking the first commitment for the 2027 class under new general manager Andrew Luck. Lowther’s decision comes after a decisive visit to Stanford, despite prior indications he was leaning towards Washington.
As the recruiting frenzy continues, fans and analysts are left to wonder what the next wave of commitments will bring. With coaching changes and athlete decisions occurring at breakneck speed, this recruiting season promises to be one of the most unpredictable yet.
Next Steps: Keep an eye on updates from UCLA as they finalize their coaching search and watch for Bessinger’s imminent decisions regarding his future. The landscape of college football recruiting is shifting rapidly, and every commitment could reshape team dynamics for years to come.
