UPDATE: Senior military officials have just presented President Donald Trump with urgent military options for potential operations in Venezuela, including possible strikes on land. This critical briefing took place at the White House on Wednesday, according to multiple sources familiar with the discussions.

The briefing included key figures such as Secretary of War Pete Hegseth and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Dan Caine. Despite the military’s readiness, no final decision has been made, as confirmed by two sources speaking to CBS News.

Officials did not disclose details about the proposed military actions, but the involvement of the U.S. intelligence community indicates the seriousness of the situation. Notably, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard was absent from the discussion, returning from an overseas trip, while Secretary of State Marco Rubio attended a G7 summit in Canada.

The urgency surrounding these developments is underscored by the recent deployment of the USS Gerald Ford carrier strike group, which has entered the U.S. Southern Command’s operational area. This military unit is tasked with overseeing operations in the Caribbean and South America.

This strategic naval presence includes a flotilla of destroyers, warplanes, and special operations assets already stationed in the region. Over the past two months, U.S. military forces have executed strikes against at least 21 vessels allegedly transporting drugs from South America to the United States, resulting in the deaths of at least 80 alleged smugglers. Only two individuals survived these operations and were subsequently repatriated to Ecuador and Colombia.

The urgency of the situation in Venezuela continues to grow, prompting military and diplomatic leaders to explore all possible options. As this story develops, all eyes will be on the White House for further updates on the potential course of action.
