BREAKING: A San Francisco jury has just declared Keonte Gathron guilty of murder in the brutal 2019 beating of 88-year-old Yik Oi Huang. The verdict, delivered on Tuesday, marks a significant moment in a case that has haunted the community for years.

District Attorney Brooke Jenkins announced the verdict, confirming Gathron is guilty of 25 counts, including the murder of Huang, who was attacked while taking her morning walk in Visitacion Valley. “We are pleased to announce Mr. Gathron has been found guilty of numerous counts,” Jenkins stated. “Most importantly, the murder of Mrs. Huang, an innocent grandmother who was simply out for her exercise.”

In January 2019, Huang was viciously assaulted in a park, where Gathron left her for dead before entering her home and fleeing the scene. Huang succumbed to her injuries on January 3, 2020, at Laguna Honda Hospital. Family members described her pain as “massive” and noted her courageous fight for life through a GoFundMe campaign.

Gathron’s charges extend beyond Huang’s murder. Jenkins revealed he faced convictions for multiple armed robberies, carjackings, and six other assaults on victims of Asian descent preceding and following Huang’s attack. The community has been vocal about the impact of these crimes, which have raised alarms about rising violence against vulnerable populations.

Gathron now faces a potential life sentence, with sentencing set for a future date. In June 2024, the park where Huang was attacked was renamed The Yik Oi Huang Peace and Friendship Park to honor her legacy and promote community healing.
