Search for Missing Selma Man Ron Dailey Intensifies with New Tech

URGENT UPDATE: The search for missing 65-year-old Ron Dailey from Selma, California, intensified today as law enforcement agencies deploy cutting-edge thermal technology and an array of specialized vehicles. Dailey has been missing in the rugged wilderness of Shaver Lake since Monday, following a deer hunting trip.

On Thursday, officials announced that search teams from across California, including the Fresno County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue, are fully mobilized, utilizing drones, off-road vehicles, and selfless volunteers to locate Dailey. “You’d be amazed at what people can survive, so odds are definitely in his favor,” stated Sgt. Scott Weishaar from the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office.

Dailey was reported missing after spending a day hunting in the eastern Fresno County area. “Talking to the family, he’s extremely familiar with this area. He came well-prepared and luckily, he’s got his vehicle. The vehicle’s a great source of shelter at night,” added Sgt. Weishaar.

The search effort is bolstered by the remarkable commitment of volunteers, with as many as 32 individuals stepping forward on Thursday alone. Many of these volunteers do not have a law enforcement background, but share a passion for the outdoors and a desire to help. “People who have a bit of extra time; a love for the outdoors and love helping people,” said Sgt. Weishaar.

In addition to volunteer efforts, the Kern County Sheriff’s Office has contributed an all-terrain amphibious vehicle known as the Sherp, which is uniquely equipped to navigate the challenging terrain. “This is really helpful because they can start out in their search area in the dirt and as it transitions to the snow then they don’t have to change equipment,” explained Sgt. Weishaar.

As the search enters its fifth day on Friday, the team will continue their relentless mission, with a debrief for volunteers scheduled at 7 a.m. at the sheriff’s base of operations in Shaver Lake. Additionally, CalFire plans to join the search using specialized aircraft equipped with thermal imaging technology to enhance visibility and efficiency.

Authorities remain hopeful, sending a message to Dailey’s family: “Stay strong. They’re lucky they have an experienced husband and grandfather that’s out there, and I’m hopeful that he gets found okay,” said Sgt. Weishaar.
