Raccoon Breaks Into Virginia Liquor Store, Passes Out in Bathroom
UPDATE: A raccoon broke into a Virginia ABC Store in Ashland and was found passed out in the bathroom after causing significant damage. The incident, which took place earlier today, has garnered attention for its unusual and chaotic nature.
According to Hanover County Animal Protection, the raccoon ransacked the liquor store’s shelves, leaving a trail of broken bottles and spilled alcohol. Photos released on social media depict a messy scene, with liquor scattered across the floor and the raccoon comfortably sleeping near the toilet.
Hanover Animal Protection Officer Martin responded swiftly to the disturbance, where he discovered the raccoon asleep in the bathroom. “Officer Martin safely secured our masked bandit and transported him back to the shelter to sober up before questioning,” the agency reported.
The raccoon caused damage to 14 bottles of spirits, estimated at around $250. Fortunately, no other significant damage was reported, and the store was able to reopen after a thorough cleanup.
The raccoon was released back into the wild after a few hours of rest, showing no signs of injury. “A big shout-out to Officer Martin for handling this chaotic scene with professionalism and good humor,” the shelter added in their statement.
This incident highlights the unpredictable and often humorous interactions between wildlife and urban environments. As authorities continue to monitor local wildlife, residents are reminded to secure their properties against unexpected visitors.
