BREAKING: A pilot has sustained severe injuries following a crash of an ultralight plane in Escalante, Utah, at approximately 12:30 p.m. today, October 13, 2023. The pilot took off from the Escalante Airport before the aircraft went down shortly after takeoff.

According to Wade Mathews from the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office, the pilot suffered multiple injuries, including fractures to both legs and one arm. Emergency responders airlifted the injured pilot to St. George Regional Hospital for immediate medical treatment.

The identity of the pilot has not been disclosed as authorities are handling the situation sensitively. Notably, ultralight aircraft do not fall under the regulation of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), meaning there will be no investigation from the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).

This incident raises concerns about safety protocols for ultralight aviation, as these types of aircraft often operate outside conventional regulatory frameworks. The community is urged to stay updated on the situation as further details emerge regarding the pilot’s condition.

Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story and the ongoing response from local authorities.
