Oracle Expands AMD Partnership with Massive 50,000 GPU Supercluster
URGENT UPDATE: Oracle has just announced a groundbreaking expansion of its partnership with AMD at the AI World 2025 conference, unveiling plans for a supercluster powered by an astonishing 50,000 AMD Instinct MI450 Series GPUs. This innovative venture positions Oracle as the first hyperscaler to offer such a publicly accessible supercluster, redefining AI infrastructure capabilities.
The new supercluster will utilize a full suite of AMD components integrated within its Helios rack architecture, including next-gen AMD EPYC ‘Venice’ CPUs and Pensando ‘Vulcano’ networking. Oracle’s commitment to AI is clear: the goal is to bring AI directly to customer data, enhancing operational efficiency and flexibility.
At the core of the AI World 2025 messaging is Oracle’s commitment to providing customers with diverse options. By collaborating with AMD, Oracle is fostering an environment of choice among chip vendors, which allows for seamless integration with rival hyperscalers in the cloud hosting arena. This strategic move not only strengthens Oracle’s offerings but also enhances customer experiences in AI deployment.
The latest Helios racks boast a dense, liquid-cooled design capable of supporting up to 72 GPUs per rack, ensuring low-latency performance. Additionally, Oracle plans to provision up to three 800 Gbps ‘Vulcano’ AI-NICs for each GPU, with each MI450 GPU delivering up to 432GB of HBM4 and an impressive 20 TB/s of memory bandwidth. Notably, this configuration empowers customers to train and infer models that are 50% larger than those of previous generations.
In tandem with this announcement, Oracle’s OCI has made OCI Compute with AMD Instinct MI355X GPUs generally available, facilitating access to up to 131,072 GPUs within the zettascale Supercluster. According to Oracle Executive Vice President Mahesh Thiagarajan, the ongoing partnership with AMD reflects customer demands for “robust, scalable, and high-performance infrastructure” that is “the best price-performance, open, secure, and scalable cloud foundation.”
In response to the news, AMD’s shares surged by approximately 8.7% the day following the announcement, indicating strong market confidence in this strategic collaboration.
As Oracle and AMD continue to innovate, the tech community eagerly anticipates the implications of this expansive supercluster on the AI landscape. Stay tuned for more updates as this story develops, and follow TechRadar for expert news and insights.
