Keegan Shackford Named CAA Special Teams Player After Overtime Victory
UPDATE: In a thrilling finish, William & Mary’s kicker Keegan Shackford has been named the CAA Special Teams Player of the Week following a nail-biting 30-27 overtime victory against Campbell on Saturday. Shackford’s decisive moment came when he successfully executed a game-tying 38-yard field goal with just 1 second remaining in regulation, showcasing his clutch performance.
Shackford completed all three of his field goal attempts during the game, including impressive kicks from 41 and 47 yards. This season, he has made at least one field goal in six consecutive games, achieving an impressive record of 8 for 12 on field goals and 32 of 33 on extra points. The standout kicker is the son of Julie Shackford, the head coach for the William & Mary women’s soccer team.
In other college sports news, the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) announced the early end of the football season for both Guilford and Averett following a significant post-game fight after their recent contest, which ended in a 27-21 victory for Averett. The ODAC stated that the altercation did not reflect the standards of sportsmanship expected, leading to forfeits for both teams in what were to be their final games of the season.
In basketball, My’kel Jenkins of Norfolk State was recognized as the MEAC Rookie of the Week, making a notable impact with 39 points and 16 rebounds over three games. Meanwhile, Caleb Wilson of North Carolina and Neoklis Avdalas of Virginia Tech shared the ACC Player and Rookie of the Week honors after strong performances in their respective games.
In women’s basketball, Jasha Clinton from Norfolk State earned the MEAC Player of the Week title, averaging 20 points per game. Additionally, Kaliya Perry of Maryland Eastern Shore was named Rookie of the Week after a solid performance in her debut season.
