URGENT UPDATE: An 11-year veteran of the FDNY tragically lost his life while battling a fire in Brooklyn on October 7, 2023. Firefighter Patrick D. Brady suffered a medical emergency while responding to an “all-hands fire” at 9407 Kings Highway near Brownsville.

According to Mayor Eric Adams, Brady was working on the roof when he went into cardiac arrest. His fellow firefighters attempted to save him before rushing him to Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

“Firefighter Patrick Brady gave his life protecting the city we all love; there is no sacrifice that is more selfless than the actions that took place this evening,” said Mayor Adams in a heartfelt statement.

The FDNY confirmed that Brady is the 1,163rd member of the department to die in the line of duty. This loss strikes a deep chord within the firefighting community, as Brady hailed from a family of firefighters dedicated to protecting New Yorkers.

Brady joined the FDNY in 2014 and followed in the footsteps of his brothers, Jimmy and Brian, who are also firefighters. The emotional toll of this incident has left the entire department mourning.

“Firefighter Brady came from a family of firefighters — all dedicated to protecting the lives of their fellow New Yorkers,” Mayor Adams added.

This incident is a stark reminder of the dangers first responders face daily. The FDNY has experienced a recent tragedy, with Paramedic Salih Abdur Rahman being the last member to die in the line of duty on October 29, 2022, after completing a shift.

As the FDNY community grieves, attention turns to how this loss will impact the department and its operations moving forward. The outpouring of support from New Yorkers highlights the profound respect and gratitude for those who risk their lives to keep the city safe.

Authorities are urging the community to remember the sacrifice made by firefighters like Patrick D. Brady, who embody courage and commitment in the line of duty. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those he served.

Stay tuned for further updates as this story develops and impacts the firefighting community across New York City.
