URGENT UPDATE: Community members in Kenosha are mourning the tragic loss of three children who died in an apartment fire on Thanksgiving night. Friends and family gathered today to honor Rylee, Alena, and Connor Kannin, lighting candles and leaving stuffed animals at a growing memorial outside the apartment where the devastating incident occurred.

The emotional vigil was filled with tears and shared memories, as attendees struggled to process the unimaginable loss. Chelsea Meeks, who organized the gathering and was close to the family, expressed the heartache felt by many. “

No parent is supposed to still be alive when their child is not on this earth, and I strongly believe that.

Another community member, Gregory Rawls, recalled the inseparable bond between the siblings. “I called them the three amigos in my brain,” he said. “Whenever you saw one, you knew the other two; they can’t be that far apart.” The community’s grief is palpable as they seek answers about what led to this heartbreaking tragedy.

As investigations continue, the Kenosha police and fire departments are exploring all avenues, viewing the incident through a “criminal investigative lens.” However, police report there is currently no evidence of criminal activity related to the fire. The community is desperate for clarity. Rawls stated, “What really happened, how did it happen, how did it start, what happened after that?”

At the memorial, attendees not only left toys representing the children’s favorites but also sang songs and shared loving memories of Rylee, Alena, and Connor. Meeks offered a heartfelt message: “I hope that they are at peace and know that they were loved by more than just their family; they were loved by friends, teachers, just anybody who came in contact with them.”

The funeral for the children is planned for later this week, and the community continues to rally around the grieving family. As the investigation unfolds, many are holding onto hope for answers and healing in the face of such profound loss.

Stay tuned for updates on this developing story as the community seeks justice and understanding in this heartbreaking event.
