Blue Jays Rookie Yesavage to Start World Series Game 1 vs. Snell
BREAKING: Toronto Blue Jays rookie Trey Yesavage has been confirmed as the starting pitcher for Game 1 of the World Series this Friday against the Los Angeles Dodgers and veteran Blake Snell. This exciting matchup marks a historic moment, as Yesavage, just 22 years old, will be the first rookie to start Game 1 of the World Series since 2006.
This announcement comes just hours before the highly anticipated game at 7:00 PM ET on October 20, 2025. Yesavage’s rise has been meteoric; he made his major league debut only on September 15 and will now make his fourth postseason start, surpassing his regular-season outings (just three). His performance has captured the attention of fans and analysts alike, creating a buzz around the rookie.
Blue Jays manager John Schneider stated earlier today that he has not yet decided on a Game 2 starter, with potential candidates including Kevin Gausman, Max Scherzer, and Shane Bieber. This uncertainty adds to the tension as the series approaches.
Yesavage, selected 20th overall in last year’s amateur draft from East Carolina University, has demonstrated remarkable talent throughout the postseason. He boasts a 3.21 ERA across three September starts, striking out 16 batters in just 14 innings. His standout moment came during Game 2 of the Division Series against the New York Yankees, where he threw 5 1/3 scoreless innings and recorded an impressive 11 strikeouts.
In contrast, he faced challenges in the AL Championship Series, allowing five runs in four innings during Game 2 but rebounded in Game 6, giving up only two runs over 5 2/3 innings.
“It made sense to hold Kevin for a day,” Schneider explained, referring to Gausman’s limited pitch count in the ALCS. The strategy aims to keep the team fresh as they head into this critical matchup against the defending champions.
The Dodgers have also confirmed their starting lineup, with Snell taking the mound in Game 1 and Yoshinobu Yamamoto expected to follow in Game 2. As the series kicks off, all eyes will be on Yesavage, whose journey from Class A Dunedin to the World Series has captured the hearts of baseball fans everywhere.
As the game approaches, fans are eager to see how Yesavage performs on this grand stage. The excitement is palpable, making this World Series one to remember. Following this game, the Blue Jays will need to solidify their pitching strategy for the next matches, with decisions regarding Gausman, Scherzer, and Bieber looming.
