Ravens Name Tyler Huntley as Starting QB for Week 8 Against Bears
The Baltimore Ravens will be without quarterback Lamar Jackson for their Week 8 matchup against the Chicago Bears, as confirmed by Adam Schefter of ESPN. Jackson’s hamstring injury has limited his participation in practice, and he is expected to return for the following game against Miami in Week 9.
Jackson’s absence marks his third consecutive game missed, a significant setback for the Ravens as they look to rebound from a bye week. The team has struggled without their star quarterback, going winless in two games. Initially, the Ravens turned to backup Cooper Rush, who was signed from the practice squad. However, his tenure as the starter proved disastrous, leading to two heavy defeats against the Houston Texans and Los Angeles Rams, where the Ravens were outscored 61-13.
In those games, Rush completed 25 of 39 passes for 251 yards, but he failed to throw any touchdowns and was intercepted four times. The Ravens quickly shifted their strategy, pulling Rush in favor of Tyler Huntley during the game against the Rams. Huntley performed modestly, completing 10 of 15 passes for 68 yards, while also contributing 39 rushing yards on three attempts.
Huntley brings a dual-threat dynamic to the Ravens’ offense, capable of making plays with his legs as well as his arm. He has a history with the team, having spent four years in Baltimore before a brief stint with the Miami Dolphins. Huntley made nine starts for the Ravens between 2021 and 2023, achieving a record of 3-6 overall. Notably, he led the team to a 2-2 record during Jackson’s absence in 2022, helping secure a playoff berth.
As Baltimore faces the 4-2 Bears, the stakes are high. A strong performance from Huntley is essential if the Ravens wish to revive their playoff aspirations. Following this game, the schedule appears favorable for the Ravens, with five consecutive opponents currently under .500, including a matchup against the winless New York Jets in Week 12.
The Ravens will be eager to see Jackson return to the field, as they aim to turn their season around and capitalize on the opportunities presented in the coming weeks. With Huntley at the helm this Sunday, the team hopes to regain momentum and secure a crucial victory.
