Messi Nears New Contract with Inter Miami After Golden Boot Triumph
Lionel Messi is on the verge of finalizing a new contract with Inter Miami, following his impressive performance that secured him the 2025 MLS Golden Boot. After a remarkable season in which the Argentine captain scored 29 goals in 28 regular-season games and provided 19 assists, Messi’s current deal, which is set to expire at the end of December, is expected to be extended for multiple years.
According to football journalist Fabrizio Romano, the “final details” of Messi’s new contract are currently being worked out. The 38-year-old, who joined Inter Miami from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2023, remains “fully focused” on the club’s project. His contributions have significantly elevated the profile of Major League Soccer (MLS) in the United States, drawing global attention to the league.
Transfer Rumors Heat Up Ahead of January Window
As Messi’s situation unfolds, other notable transfer rumors are also circulating in the football world. Real Madrid forward Endrick is reportedly a target for Marseille, with the French club considering a loan move for the 19-year-old in January. Endrick has yet to make his first-team debut under Madrid coach Xabi Alonso, leading to speculation about his future as he aims to secure a spot on Brazil’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The need for Marseille to bolster their attacking options is especially pressing, as they anticipate losing players like Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Amine Gouiri to the Africa Cup of Nations.
Meanwhile, Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic is reportedly leaning towards a move to Tottenham Hotspur during the January transfer window. Vlahovic’s contract with Juventus is set to expire at the end of the season, making him available at a potentially reduced fee. Tottenham’s current forward lineup has faced challenges with injuries, positioning them as frontrunners for Vlahovic’s signature.
Clubs Eye Defensive Reinforcements
Real Madrid is actively seeking defensive reinforcements and has identified a shortlist of candidates. Crystal Palace captain Marc Guéhi, Bayern Munich’s Dayot Upamecano, and Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konaté are among the players under consideration. Each of these central defenders is set to be out of contract in 2026, which could allow Madrid to secure a high-profile addition on a free transfer similar to their recent acquisition of Trent Alexander-Arnold.
In addition, discussions regarding the future of Manchester City goalkeeper James Trafford are on hold. With the arrival of Gianluigi Donnarumma at the Etihad Stadium, Trafford’s opportunities have diminished significantly. Although he made a high-profile move to City earlier this season, he has yet to start a Premier League game since Donnarumma’s arrival in August.
As the January transfer window approaches, the football community eagerly anticipates how these rumors will unfold. With high-profile players like Messi and Vlahovic potentially changing clubs, the landscape of European football could see significant shifts in the coming weeks.
