High school football fans are gearing up for an exciting night as Kilgore (10-1) takes on Stafford (6-5) and Overton (7-4) faces Goldthwaite (8-3) in the area round of the playoffs on November 10, 2023. Both games promise high-stakes action as teams vie for a chance to advance further in the championship.

Kilgore vs. Stafford: A Clash of Titans

Kilgore will host Stafford at the Berton A. Yates Stadium in Willis, Texas, with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m.. The Kilgore Bulldogs enter the match with a formidable record, having outscored their opponents 454-125 this season. They have demonstrated a dominant defense, allowing a touchdown or less in six of their eleven games.

Leading the charge for Kilgore is quarterback Kayson Brooks, who has thrown for 2,361 yards, 25 touchdowns, and just three interceptions this season. Additionally, Brooks has contributed on the ground with 198 rushing yards and six touchdowns. The Bulldogs’ offense also features standout performances from players like Rayshaun Williams, who has amassed 1,394 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns, and LaKeyleon Graves, who has recorded 532 receiving yards and seven touchdowns.

Stafford, on the other hand, is looking to build on recent momentum after winning five of their last six games, despite starting the season with a rocky 1-4 record. Quarterback Nate Ray has thrown for 1,509 yards and 26 touchdowns, showcasing his ability to lead the Spartans’ offense. The matchup will be particularly interesting as these two teams have met only once in the playoffs before, with Kilgore narrowly winning that contest 28-26 in 2021.

Overton Faces Off Against Goldthwaite

In another thrilling encounter, Overton will take on Goldthwaite at Groesbeck Stadium, also kicking off at 7 p.m.. This game marks the first meeting between the two teams, adding an extra layer of intrigue to the matchup.

Overton’s success this season can be largely attributed to quarterback Rylan Holleman, who has thrown for 1,506 yards and 16 touchdowns, while also rushing for 1,152 yards and an impressive 20 touchdowns. Holleman’s recent performance set a new school record with five rushing touchdowns in last week’s bi-district win over West Sabine.

Conversely, Goldthwaite enters the game with a strong defensive reputation, having recorded five shutout victories this season. They have also faced tough competition, including a dramatic 36-34 win over Maud that went into five overtime periods. With both teams averaging close to 40 points per game, fans can expect a high-scoring affair.

As both matchups unfold, the winners will advance to face either Bridge City or Navasota next week, heightening the stakes for all teams involved. With talented rosters and determined players on both sides, Friday night promises to deliver thrilling football action across Texas.
