The Cincinnati Bengals have successfully cleared tight end Mike Gesicki to return to practice following recovery from a pectoral injury. The team announced on Wednesday that they have activated his 21-day practice window, allowing him to train with the team as he works towards a comeback.

Gesicki sustained the injury during the Bengals’ 27-18 loss to the Green Bay Packers in Week 6 of the NFL season. Subsequently, he was placed on injured reserve on October 15, 2023, which sidelined him for several weeks. In the six games leading up to his injury, he recorded eight receptions for a total of 64 yards.

Gesicki’s Impact on the Bengals Offense

The 30-year-old tight end, who celebrated his birthday in early October, joined the Bengals this season after a productive previous year. In his first season with the team, Gesicki achieved impressive stats, catching 65 passes for 665 yards and scoring two touchdowns. His contributions have been significant, and the Bengals are hopeful his return will bolster their offensive strategy.

In March, the Bengals secured Gesicki with a three-year contract extension valued at $25.5 million, emphasizing their commitment to his role within the team. As he resumes practice, he can work towards regaining his form and re-integrating into the lineup.

Additional Roster Updates

On the same day, the Bengals also opened the practice window for safety Daijahn Anthony. Anthony has not yet appeared in a game this season due to a hamstring injury sustained prior to the start of the season. He was placed on injured reserve on August 26, 2023, following being selected by the Bengals in the seventh round of the 2024 NFL draft.

Both Gesicki and Anthony can practice with the Bengals for up to 21 days without impacting the active 53-man roster. The team can activate either player at any point during this period, which adds flexibility to their roster management as they navigate the remainder of the season.
