Ability First Sports Hosts Annual Meeting Highlighting Impact
Scott Dinits, Co-Director of Ability First Sports, addressed the members of the Chico Noon Exchange Club during its meeting on October 28, 2023. Dinits spoke about the organization’s mission to empower youth and adults with physical disabilities through sports and recreation. The program, originally founded in 1985 by Eric Snedeker, continues to thrive despite the passing of its former director, who died on April 24, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Ability First Sports is dedicated to ensuring that individuals with physical disabilities can lead active and healthy lives. The organization provides year-round activities and summer camp programs, allowing participants to engage in various sports and leisure activities. Over the years, Ability First has successfully supported numerous athletes in competing on wheelchair club teams, in the Paralympics, and in various college and community-based sports programs.
Upcoming Summer Camp Offers New Opportunities
Exciting news was shared during the meeting regarding the 41st annual summer camp, which will take place from June 21-27, 2026. This camp is designed for youth aged 6-18 with physical disabilities and will feature expert coaching in a range of adapted sports. The goal is to provide a supportive environment where participants can learn, grow, and engage in physical activities that promote well-being.
The legacy of Eric Snedeker continues to inspire the community, and Ability First Sports remains committed to his vision of inclusivity and empowerment through sports. The organization not only fosters athletic skills but also builds confidence and friendships among participants.
As the meeting concluded, the members of the Chico Noon Exchange Club were reminded of the importance of community support in sustaining programs like Ability First Sports. Organizations that focus on inclusivity and accessibility play a crucial role in enhancing the quality of life for individuals with disabilities, enabling them to thrive in various aspects of life.
