The holiday season in Marin County is set to be vibrant and engaging, with a series of festive events planned throughout December. Families, friends, and visitors can participate in activities that not only celebrate the season but also support local communities.

Tutu Turkey Trot Kicks Off Festivities

The fun begins on November 23, 2023, with San Anselmo’s inaugural Tutu Turkey Trot. Participants are invited to don their favorite tutus for a 2.2-mile race starting at 8:30 a.m. at Wade Thomas Elementary School, located at 150 Ross Avenue. An optional “Leftover Loop” adds an extra mile for those seeking more of a challenge. Registration costs $22, and all proceeds will benefit the YES Foundation, which funds programs for the Ross Valley School District. More information can be found at yestokids.org/sa-tutu-turkeytrot.

Holiday Fun Continues with Elf Hunt and Winter Wonderland

Following the Trot, the Downtown San Rafael Business Improvement District is hosting its annual Elf Hunt from December 2, 2023, to January 5, 2024. Families can join the hunt for 31 elves that have “escaped the North Pole” along Fourth Street, from Lincoln to H Street. Those who locate all the elves can enter to win a gift basket by submitting a completed map to Mike’s Bikes in San Rafael or emailing it to [email protected]. Participation is free, and a map is available at downtownsanrafael.org/elf-hunt.

“This event is a wonderful way to bring families, friends, and visitors into downtown San Rafael during the holidays,” said Sarah Tipple, director of the Downtown San Rafael Business Improvement District. “We encourage everyone of all ages to enjoy our downtown, vote for their favorite decorated windows, shop and dine to support our local businesses, and have fun finding our mischievous elves.”

On December 2, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., the Holiday of Lights and Winter Wonderland will also take place in downtown San Rafael. This festive gathering will feature a tree lighting ceremony, live entertainment, food trucks, and warm beverages. Admission is free, and more details can be found at downtownsanrafael.org.

The celebrations will continue on December 3, 2023, with the Marin County Mart holiday party and tree lighting ceremony. From 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., attendees can enjoy a “Nutcracker” story time performance by the Marin Ballet, carols by the Marin Girls Chorus, and cookie decorating for children. This festive event will take place at 2257 Larkspur Landing Circle in Larkspur, with no admission fee. More information is available at marincountrymart.com.

As Marin County gears up for these holiday events, residents and visitors are encouraged to embrace the spirit of the season while supporting local initiatives and businesses.
