Central High School’s Carnival Brings Community Together on November 25, 1951
On November 25, 1951, Central High School in Grand Forks, North Dakota, will host a vibrant carnival featuring a vaudeville show, games, and a dance. This event, organized by the student council, aims to raise funds for the school’s Forx publication and the inter-communication system.
Joy Wardner and Alea Sando serve as general chairpersons for the carnival, which kicks off at 19:30. Their team includes assistants Ronald Broeker and Donald Saunders, who are helping to ensure a successful event.
Exciting Festivities Planned
Central’s gymnasium will be transformed into a lively venue with various booths and concessions operated by different school organizations. The carnival will also feature a vaudeville show held in the auditorium, showcasing local talent. Dancing will commence at 22:00 in the lower recreation room, where attendees can enjoy music from a juke box.
The dance is organized by Judd Blain and Richard Stone, and will include the coronation of a carnival king and queen. Candidates for the queen will be sponsored by the Hi-Y groups, while the Girls Athletic Association and Tri-Y will support the king nominees. Attendees will have the opportunity to cast their votes throughout the evening.
A New Tradition Begins
This carnival marks the first time the student council has taken the lead in organizing the event, which was traditionally managed by Parent-Teacher groups. The show director, Jack Fontaine, along with publicity chair Judy Waldon, have been working diligently to promote the festivities.
Carnival-goers can expect a range of attractions, including weight guessing, basketball throws, spook houses, and dart throwing. Refreshments will be available in the lunchroom, ensuring that attendees can enjoy snacks while participating in the various activities.
A number of organizations are involved in running concessions, each with designated chairpersons. Notable groups include the Letterman’s Club, chaired by Rodney Johnson; the Girls Athletic Association, led by Sharon Hoffman; and the Camera Club, headed by Riney Goehl, among others.
This carnival promises to be a night of fun and community spirit, engaging students, families, and local residents in a shared celebration.
