Data Breach at St. Anthony Hospital Exposes Sensitive Information
A data breach at St. Anthony Hospital could have compromised the personal information of patients and staff members. In February 2024, hospital officials discovered that a “small number” of employee accounts were accessed by an “unauthorized actor.” Following this incident, the hospital initiated an investigation with an external cybersecurity firm to assess the extent of the breach.
Located at 2875 W. 19th St., St. Anthony Hospital has reported that they have not yet been informed of any individuals directly affected by the breach. However, the hospital stated they would reach out to anyone whose personal information may have been compromised.
The types of data potentially at risk include a range of sensitive information: names, addresses, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, medical record numbers, patient account numbers, prescription details, and individual medical histories.
In a statement, officials emphasized, “To date, we have no evidence of any data misuse stemming from this incident, nor any reports of identity theft or fraud.” The hospital reassured the public that as a team of dedicated healthcare professionals, they value the trust placed in them to protect personal information. “We are unwavering in our commitment to privacy and security, and we acted swiftly upon discovery to safeguard the data in our care,” they added.
In light of the situation, St. Anthony Hospital encouraged patients to consider placing fraud alerts or security freezes on their credit files. They advised individuals to remain vigilant in reviewing financial statements and credit reports for any signs of fraudulent or irregular activity.
For those with questions regarding the breach, the hospital has provided a contact number, 877-580-4384, available from 08:00 to 17:00, Monday through Friday. The hospital aims to keep the public informed as they continue to investigate this incident and enhance their data security measures.
