Community Remembers David Michael Jr. for His Service and Kindness
David Michael Jr., aged 37, from Saint Paul, Minnesota, passed away on November 5, 2025, after a prolonged battle with mental health challenges. Born on February 29, 1988, he was the son of David Cotter Sr. and Anne Marie Bluhm. David’s life was marked by dedication, service, and a profound love for his family.
He completed his General Educational Development (GED) and enlisted in the United States Army National Guard, where he served from October 12, 2005, to October 11, 2007. During his time in the military, he achieved the rank of Private First Class (PFC) and was stationed at Fort Benning in Atlanta, Georgia. His service earned him several medals and honors, reflecting his commitment and dedication.
Following his military career, David transitioned into civilian life as a barge deckhand with Upper River Services. He embraced hobbies such as fishing, playing video games, and bowling, and he was an avid supporter of the Minnesota Vikings. David was well-known for his big, comforting hugs, a sharp sense of humor, and an infectious laugh that brought joy to those around him.
David’s family remained central to his life. He is survived by his four children: David Cotter III, Marianna Cotter, Nakoma Cotter, and Cayda Cotter. David also leaves behind his brother, Christopher Thull; sister, Cesley Chavez; mother, Anne Marie Bluhm; father, David Cotter Sr.; uncle, Mark Bluhm; and many beloved relatives, including aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Memorial Service Scheduled for November
A memorial service to honor David Cotter Jr. will take place on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at the Galilee Lutheran Church in Roseville, Minnesota, from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM. The service will provide an opportunity for family and friends to pay their respects and celebrate his life. Following the service, interment will occur at Union Cemetery in Maplewood, Minnesota.
