Community Mourns Passing of Kind-hearted Wade Gluyas, 66
Wade Alexander Gluyas, a beloved member of his community, passed away on October 20, 2024, at the age of 66 after a prolonged battle with kidney and liver failure. Born on August 14, 1958, in Santa Ana, California, he was the only son of George and Bette Gluyas. His death has left a profound impact on those who knew him, reflecting a life marked by kindness and generosity.
Wade was a graduate of Rancho Alamitos High School and furthered his education at ITT Technical School, alongside various community college courses driven by his love for learning. Known for his gentle demeanor, he was often described as a “big teddy bear” and was recognized for his warm smile and infectious laughter. Those close to him appreciated his unwavering generosity; he was known to give selflessly, offering support to anyone in need.
Despite his caring nature, Wade faced challenges due to obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). This condition sometimes complicated his interactions, leading to misunderstandings about his intentions. Nevertheless, Wade remained committed to helping others, regularly looking out for the vulnerable, whom he affectionately referred to as “critters,” “old geezers,” and “the little tikes.”
Family and Friendships Highlight Wade’s Legacy
Wade cherished simple pleasures in life. He enjoyed practical jokes with his sister, Becky, and fishing trips with his father and sister, Leslie. His childhood friend, Chris, shared many adventures with him, often discussing dreams of traveling to places like Alaska, even if those aspirations remained unfulfilled. Wade had a vivid imagination, frequently engaging in conversations about scientific theories and inventions—many of which, surprisingly, turned out to be true.
Additionally, Wade’s culinary adventures earned him the nickname “foodie” from his sister, Leslie. While some of his culinary creations were unconventional, they often included generous servings of sour cream, hot sauce, and mayonnaise. Family members humorously noted that only their father would eat more than a single bite of Wade’s unique dishes.
Wade remained close to his family throughout his life, taking on the responsibility of running errands and caring for his mother and father until their deaths in 2005. After his parents passed away, Wade moved in with his sister, Beth, and her husband, Gary, in Visalia, California. Despite the challenges posed by his OCD, his family continued to support him, and they shared a strong bond until his final days.
A Lasting Impact and Final Wishes
As Wade faced his health struggles, he exemplified courage and concern for those around him, often worrying about how his family was coping. In a final act of generosity, he chose to donate his organs to the Donor Network, encouraging others to consider organ donation despite their fears.
Wade will be laid to rest alongside his parents and sister, Becky, at Murrieta Valley Cemetery in Murrieta, California. A graveside service is scheduled for November 3 at 13:00, providing an opportunity for family and friends to celebrate his life and legacy.
His passing marks a significant loss for the community. As many reflect on his life, they acknowledge that while the world seems a little dimmer without him, his spirit will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of those he touched. Wade Gluyas will be remembered not only for his kindness but also for his enduring friendship and the joy he brought into the lives of others.
