Young@Heart Chorus Revives Beatles Classics at Chocolate Church
The internationally acclaimed Young@Heart Chorus will perform a lively concert celebrating the music of The Beatles at the Chocolate Church Arts Center on October 26, 2023, at 14:00. This event promises to bring the spirited essence of the 1960s to life through the voices of performers whose ages range from their 70s to 90s, demonstrating that creativity knows no boundaries.
The concert, which has been a long time in the making, reflects the dedication of the center’s executive and artistic director, Matthew Glassman. “I have known the Young@Heart Chorus and their unique work for some time,” Glassman stated. “Bringing them here has been a huge project, requiring proper accommodations for a dozen octogenarians and a full band.” Support from the New England Foundation for the Arts has been instrumental in making this event possible.
Founded in 1982 in Northampton, Massachusetts, the Young@Heart Chorus gained international fame after the release of the documentary “Young@Heart” in 2007, which received an Academy Award nomination. The film showcased the group’s ability to connect with audiences through humor and resilience, qualities that will be evident in their upcoming performance.
Audience members can look forward to soulful renditions of Beatles classics such as “Hey Jude,” “Let It Be,” “Come Together,” and “Here Comes the Sun.” The chorus will be accompanied by a professional live band, reinterpreting these timeless songs with fresh emotion and insight. As Terry Gross of NPR observed, “The Young@Heart Chorus is a revelation — singing not just with their voices, but with their lives.”
Critics have consistently praised the Young@Heart Chorus for their uplifting performances. The New York Times described them as “a joyous, inspiring reminder that creativity doesn’t retire,” while The Guardian highlighted them as “proof that rock and roll can, in fact, keep you young.” Similarly, The Boston Globe noted, “The Young@Heart Chorus doesn’t just perform music — they embody it.”
This concert at the Chocolate Church Arts Center represents a unique opportunity for the Bath community to experience a performance filled with joy, hope, and the enduring power of music. Tickets for the concert are available online and at the box office, inviting audiences of all ages to share in this celebration of musical legacy.
As the Young@Heart Chorus continues to inspire fans globally, their message remains clear: creativity and passion have no expiration date.
