Teen Becomes Internet Sensation After Louvre Heist Photo
A photograph capturing a 15-year-old boy at the Louvre during the recent crown jewels heist has sparked millions of views online, turning him into a viral sensation known as “Fedora Man.” The image, taken by Associated Press photographer Thibault Camus, shows the teenager, Pedro Elias Garzon Delvaux, unwittingly walking past the scene of a crime that would dominate headlines.
Living in Rambouillet, approximately 30 kilometers (19 miles) from Paris, Pedro initially chose not to reveal his identity when the photo gained traction online. Instead, he embraced the mystery surrounding the image, which features him dressed in a three-piece suit, complete with a fedora. “I didn’t want to say immediately it was me,” he explained. “With this photo, there is a mystery, so you have to make it last.”
The heist occurred on March 15, 2025, when thieves executed a daylight raid on the French crown jewels. In the aftermath, police established a security cordon, and during this time, Pedro and his family arrived at the Louvre, unaware of the unfolding events. “We wanted to go to the Louvre, but it was closed,” he said. “We didn’t know there was a heist.” As they approached the gates, the photograph was captured, forever linking Pedro to the dramatic scene.
Pedro’s distinctive style has garnered attention, as he often dresses more like a character from a classic detective story than a typical teenager. His fedora, a nod to French Resistance hero Jean Moulin, is reserved for special occasions, including visits to museums. “I like to be chic,” he stated, highlighting his preference for formal attire over casual wear.
The photograph quickly became a topic of fascination online, with many speculating about his identity and motives. Some labeled him as an “inside man” or even suggested that he might be an AI creation due to his vintage appearance contrasted with the modern setting. Pedro remarked, “There is a contrast,” acknowledging why people might have thought he looked out of place.
As the news of his newfound fame spread, Pedro was amazed by the reaction. An acquaintance reached out after seeing the photo, informing him that it had already amassed over 5 million views. “I was a bit surprised,” he recalled, noting that even his family and friends were initially skeptical until they spotted his mother in the background of the image.
While Pedro enjoys the attention, he remains grounded. He described his experience as surreal, stating, “It’s not every day” that one appears in prestigious publications such as The New York Times. He expressed curiosity about potential opportunities that may arise from his sudden fame, saying, “I’m waiting for people to contact me for films. That would be very funny.”
Despite the whirlwind of attention, Pedro’s perspective reflects a genuine appreciation for art and culture. His mother, Félicité Garzon Delvaux, who grew up surrounded by artworks as the daughter of a curator, instilled in him the belief that “art and museums are living spaces.” This background has influenced his keen interest in style and history, allowing him to navigate the unexpected spotlight with a sense of humor and grace.
As he continues to embrace his role as “Fedora Man,” Pedro remains a relatable figure amid the chaotic narrative of the heist. He has transitioned his private Instagram account to public, allowing people to connect with him more easily. “People had to try to find who I am,” he said, reflecting on the intrigue surrounding his identity.
In a story that intertwines theft, art, and unexpected fame, Pedro Elias Garzon Delvaux stands out not just as a viral sensation but as a reminder of the power of images in shaping narratives. “I’m a star,” he states, embodying the charm and curiosity that has captivated millions, while affirming his commitment to his unique style. “I’ll keep dressing like this. It’s my style.”
