Lindsey Buckingham Announces New Solo Album After Fleetwood Mac Split
Lindsey Buckingham is set to release a new solo album, marking his return to music after a five-year hiatus. The former Fleetwood Mac guitarist shared this exciting news in a recent social media post, revealing that the upcoming record is the culmination of 25 years of experience in music production. This album will be his eighth solo project and the first since his 2021 release, which was self-titled.
Buckingham’s new work follows a tumultuous period for the artist, particularly after his departure from Fleetwood Mac in 2018. At the time, his exit generated significant media attention, especially as it led to the band recruiting former Heartbreakers guitarist Mike Campbell and Neil Finn to fill his role for their final performances. Buckingham joined Fleetwood Mac in 1975, replacing Bob Welch, and played a pivotal role in the band’s most commercially successful era.
In his announcement, Buckingham stated, “This new album is the culmination of everything that I’ve learned from making solo albums over the last 25 years.” He emphasized his dedication to maintaining a specific ethical and idealistic approach throughout his career. “I feel like this particular album is the culmination of holding a certain line ethically and idealistically that I’ve managed to maintain for many years. So I’m really excited about this piece of work,” he added in a video posted to X on November 24, 2025.
Recent Collaborations and Legacy
Buckingham’s recent activities have kept him in the public eye, especially following his well-documented conflicts with Fleetwood Mac. In March, he was photographed in the studio with drummer Mick Fleetwood, who is currently working on his first album since the band disbanded. Swedish producer Carl Falk, who is collaborating with Fleetwood on this project, described their reunion as “unreal,” marking the first time the two have worked together in seven years.
In addition to his new album, Buckingham has seen the reissue of *Buckingham Nicks*, the influential album he created with former Fleetwood Mac vocalist Stevie Nicks in 1973. This record was crucial in the duo’s eventual recruitment into Fleetwood Mac two years later, leading to a prolific partnership that spanned several decades. Nicks, like Buckingham, has carved out a successful solo career, with notable hits such as “Edge of Seventeen” and “Quit Draggin’ My Heart Around.”
Although Buckingham’s exit from Fleetwood Mac was disappointing for many fans, it provided an unexpected opportunity for Mike Campbell. Following the death of Tom Petty, Campbell described his role in Fleetwood Mac as a “lifeline” during a challenging time.
As Buckingham prepares to unveil his new music, fans eagerly await what promises to be a significant addition to his legacy. With decades of experience and a fresh perspective, the forthcoming album will undoubtedly reflect his journey and artistic evolution.
