Colman Domingo Joins Cast of “Wicked: For Good” as Lion
Oscar nominee Colman Domingo has been announced as the voice of the Cowardly Lion in the upcoming film “Wicked: For Good,” set to premiere on November 21, 2024. Domingo revealed this exciting news through his Instagram account on Monday, generating significant buzz among fans of the beloved musical.
The film, directed by Jon M. Chu, is an adaptation of the stage musical that explores the backstory of iconic characters from Frank L. Baum’s classic tale, “The Wizard of Oz.” Last week, Chu hinted at the involvement of a prominent actor in the role of the Cowardly Lion, leaving many to speculate about the casting.
Among the cast, Cynthia Erivo will portray Elphaba, known as the Wicked Witch of the West, while Ariana Grande takes on the role of Glinda, the Good Witch of the South. Other notable cast members include Jonathan Bailey as Prince Fiyero, Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible, and Jeff Goldblum as the Wizard.
The characters of the Tin Man and Scarecrow remain unannounced, but their presence is anticipated by those familiar with the original story. Dorothy Gale is also expected to appear in a limited capacity, as she is depicted from behind or in the distance, leaving questions about whether a well-known actress will take on this role.
As excitement builds for the film’s release, fans are eager to see how the classic characters will be reimagined in this new adaptation. The combination of a star-studded cast and the creative vision of Chu promises to bring a fresh perspective to the timeless tale, while also paying homage to its roots.
“Wicked: For Good” is expected to be a significant event in the cinematic calendar, appealing to both long-time fans of the musical and new audiences alike. With Domingo’s recent announcement, the anticipation has only intensified as the release date approaches.
