Empty Stocking Fund Aims to Raise $475,000 This Holiday Season
The **Empty Stocking Fund**, a charitable initiative operating for 45 years, is set to provide much-needed support to residents of **Santa Fe** and **Rio Arriba** counties this holiday season. Managed by the **Santa Fe Community Foundation** in collaboration with **The New Mexican**, the fund aims to raise **$475,000** to assist individuals and families facing financial hardships.
Each year, the fund helps hundreds of applicants cover essential expenses, including rent, medical bills, utility costs, car repairs, and other critical needs. To qualify for assistance, applicants must reside in the designated counties and provide documentation proving their identity. Importantly, the fund operates without discrimination based on race, age, ethnicity, gender identity, or sexual orientation.
Applications for aid opened on **December 1, 2025**, and will remain accessible until **January 31, 2026**, or until the allocated funds are exhausted. Interested individuals can apply online at emptystocking.grantcircles.org.
How to Contribute to the Cause
The **Empty Stocking Fund** relies heavily on the generosity of donors to meet its financial goals. Contributions are tax-deductible and can be made online through the Santa Fe Community Foundation’s website at santafecf.org/esf. In-person donations can be made at two locations: the Santa Fe Community Foundation at **501 Halona St.** and **The New Mexican** office at **150 Washington Ave., Suite 105**, during business hours from **10 a.m. to 4 p.m.**, Monday through Friday.

As of **December 5, 2025**, the fund has received **$259,523.75** in contributions. Among the notable donations are several anonymous gifts, including **$1,500** and **$2,000**, as well as memorial contributions in honor of loved ones. The community’s response has showcased the spirit of generosity, with individuals like **Janet and Gerard Iff** contributing **$1,000** and **Patricia and James McGrath Morris** matching that amount.
The ongoing support for the **Empty Stocking Fund** not only helps alleviate immediate financial burdens on families during the holiday season but also fosters a sense of community solidarity.
