Property tax bills for Nez Perce County have been mailed out, and local officials are highlighting a significant improvement in accessibility to the county treasurer’s office. As of now, residents can benefit from a newly opened parking lot, which allows access from both 12th and 13th streets. This change, according to Rebecca “Missy” McLaughlin, the county treasurer, comes after the demolition of the old courthouse in the previous summer, which had previously complicated parking and access for visitors.

With the completion of the parking area, McLaughlin emphasized that residents can now more easily visit the office for their property tax needs. For the first half of 2025, property tax payments are due on December 20, while the second half is due on June 20. To ensure proper processing, taxpayers are encouraged to include payment stubs or parcel numbers when submitting their payments.

Payments can be mailed directly to P.O. Box 896, Lewiston, ID 83501, and must be postmarked by the respective due date to avoid penalties. For those mailing payments on December 20, McLaughlin advises visiting the post office in person to obtain a hand-stamped envelope as proof of timely mailing. Additionally, there is a dropbox available for payments located at the corner of F and 12th streets.

In related financial news, McLaughlin noted a recent successful challenge by Avista regarding its property taxes. This decision has resulted in the county, the city of Lewiston, and local school districts needing to reimburse Avista, with costs reflected on property tax bills under lines marked “JDGMNT.” As a result, property taxpayers will indirectly cover these costs.

Residents who do not receive their tax bills or have questions are urged to reach out to the treasurer’s office at (208) 799-3030 or via email at [email protected]. With the new parking facilities and clear payment guidelines, Nez Perce County officials aim to streamline the property tax process for all residents.
