White House Account Attacks Reporter After Troops Shot in D.C.
URGENT UPDATE: A heated exchange erupted on social media following the shooting of two National Guard troops in Washington, D.C. An official White House account launched a fierce attack on journalist Jane Mayer, labeling her a “sick, disgusting ghoul” after she questioned the deployment of troops amidst escalating tensions.
This incident unfolded earlier today when Mayer, writing for The New Yorker, criticized the National Guard’s presence in the capital. “This is so tragic, so unnecessary; these poor guardsmen should never have been deployed,” she stated on X. Mayer noted that the troops had little to do but “pick up trash,” calling their deployment a “political show at what a cost.”
In response, the Rapid Response 47 account, part of the Trump administration’s public relations effort, fired back vehemently. “You sick, disgusting ghoul,” the account retorted. “Two of these heroes were just SHOT IN BROAD DAYLIGHT.” They defended the National Guard, asserting that they have saved countless lives, backed by evidence that Mayer allegedly failed to recognize.
Initial reports suggested that the two troops had succumbed to their injuries; however, it has since been confirmed that they are alive but in critical condition. As details continue to unfold, authorities have identified a suspect in the shooting: Rahmanullah Lakanwal, a 29-year-old Afghan national. A motive for the attack remains unclear at this time.
Political ramifications are already surfacing, with some Republican leaders seizing the opportunity to criticize military veterans. Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ) has tied the attack to a group of six military veteran Democrats who released a video reminding troops of their duty to refuse unlawful orders.
The evolving situation has stirred significant public interest and debate over the role of the National Guard and the nature of military deployments in domestic affairs. As the story develops, all eyes are on Washington, D.C., where the implications of this incident could resonate far beyond the capital.
Stay tuned for more updates as authorities continue to investigate this alarming event, and the political fallout becomes clearer.
