Porsche Unleashes Heaviest-Ever Cayenne Electric, Weighing 5,831 lbs
BREAKING NEWS: Porsche has just announced that the new Cayenne Electric is officially the heaviest vehicle the brand has ever produced, tipping the scales at a staggering 5,831 lbs (2,645 kg). This remarkable SUV, which boasts an impressive 1,139 horsepower and 1,106 lb-ft (1,500 Newton-meters) of torque, is making waves in the automotive world as it sets a new standard for weight and power.
This urgent development comes as the Cayenne Electric Turbo variant eclipses its predecessor, the Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid Coupe, which weighed 5,721 lbs (2,595 kg). The Turbo variant not only represents a leap in performance but also solidifies Porsche’s position as a leader in the electric vehicle market, despite being the heaviest model produced by the brand to date.
The Cayenne Electric Turbo features a colossal 113-kWh battery pack that weighs approximately 1,322 lbs (600 kg). For context, this battery alone is nearly as heavy as an entire classic car, the Porsche 356 SL, which weighed just 1,410 lbs (640 kg) and won its class at the 1951 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Despite its hefty stature, the Cayenne Electric Turbo is not the heaviest electric SUV on the market. The Mercedes G-Class, for instance, weighs an astonishing 6,801 lbs (3,084 kg), showcasing the increasing trend of weight in electric SUVs. In comparison, American models like the Cadillac Escalade IQ are even heavier, with a massive weight of 9,134 lbs (4,143 kg).
Porsche’s history with weight dates back to the original 2002 Cayenne, which was known for its durability and off-road capabilities. It weighed 5,191 lbs (2,355 kg) in Turbo S trim, setting a precedent for the brand’s upward weight trend. With a new three-row SUV on the horizon, originally planned as an electric model, weight records may continue to rise further.
As the automotive industry shifts towards electrification, the Cayenne Electric Turbo’s launch highlights both the advancements in performance and the challenges of weight management in electric vehicles. Keep an eye on upcoming models as Porsche continues to innovate and redefine its legacy.
