Northern Liberties Residents Fear TikTok Scam Targeting Women
BREAKING: Residents of Northern Liberties, Philadelphia, are on high alert after becoming potential victims of a disturbing TikTok scam targeting young women. Since September, at least 20 young women have mistakenly knocked on the door of local resident Jearold Hersey, believing they were arriving for scheduled hair appointments.
Hersey expressed deep concern for the safety of his family, stating, “This is freaking my son out.” The alarming situation began when women contacted him through a TikTok page named “Nariah the Hairstylist,” which advertised hair services. After sending a deposit via Cash App, the women received a location that led them directly to Hersey’s home.
“This is really nerve-racking because you don’t know who is coming to your door,” Hersey shared. Disturbingly, the women reported that they were given Hersey’s address after the fraudulent account received their money. In response, neighbors have started posting warnings on their doors, alerting young women that their homes have been implicated in an online scam.
“Sometimes people see the sign and go away, and sometimes people bang on the door, yelling in front of their door,” Hersey added, illustrating the distress this situation has caused. When contacted by Action News, the TikTok account operator promised to send an address after receiving a $25 fee but abruptly hung up when questioned about the scam.
Hersey is adamant about raising awareness, stating, “I really want them to get caught in all honesty. This isn’t cool. It’s not fair to the people… we feel unsafe as well.” He has reported the fraudulent TikTok page to the platform and urges others to do the same.
The Philadelphia Police are advising any victims of this scheme to file a police report as they investigate the situation further. This urgent update serves as a critical warning for community members and highlights the need for vigilance in the face of online scams.
As this story develops, residents are encouraged to stay alert and report any suspicious activity. The emotional toll on families affected by this scam is significant, as the fear of strangers at their door disrupts their sense of security. Community members are sharing their experiences and warnings, creating a heightened awareness of the potential dangers posed by online scams that prey on vulnerable individuals.
