Urgent Snow Alert: Central PA Faces Slushy Commute Today

UPDATE: A significant snow alert has been issued for Central Pennsylvania, with the National Weather Service confirming snow accumulation until 8 a.m. Wednesday. The alert, issued at 3:26 a.m., affects several counties, including Northern Clinton, Northern Centre, Southern Centre, Northern Lycoming, Southern Clinton, and Southern Lycoming, as well as Clearfield, Blair, Huntingdon, and more.

A compact but potent weather system is moving from South-Central PA towards the Southern Poconos, leading to accumulating wet snow during the early to mid-morning hours. Snow is expected to taper off west of Interstate 99 between 4 and 5 a.m., but will intensify across the Middle Susquehanna Valley and Western Poconos between 5 a.m. and 8 a.m.

Residents should be prepared for 1 to 2 inches of snow on colder, grassy surfaces, which could lead to slushy and hazardous driving conditions. The weather service emphasizes that untreated roads may become slick, especially during the critical mid-morning commute for schools and workplaces across Central PA.

“Use extra caution if you must travel this morning, as potentially slick roads may lead to accidents,” warns the weather service. Motorists are advised to slow down and maintain plenty of stopping distance between vehicles, as sudden braking could lead to dangerous situations.

This short burst of winter weather is particularly impactful for areas southeast of a line drawn from Altoona to State College and Williamsport. Drivers should remain vigilant as conditions evolve throughout the morning.

Stay tuned for further updates as this situation develops. Share this information with friends and family to ensure everyone stays safe during the snowy commute.
