BREAKING: Salvatore “Sam” Nicastro, a beloved figure in Colonie, NY, has passed away peacefully at the age of 94 on November 17, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. This loss is felt deeply across the community, as Sam was not just a family man but also a cherished musician and veteran.

Born on May 29, 1931, in Schenectady, Sam lived a life rich in love and music. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Angeline “Angie” Perfetto Nicastro, whom he married on June 6, 1953. Sam’s journey began with hardship; orphaned at the age of five, he was raised by his devoted Godparents, Domenica and Rosario Catalfamo. His love for music flourished early, leading him to perform as a tenor saxophonist and even lead his own seven-piece band during high school.

Sam’s commitment to family was evident. He was a dedicated father to his children, Michael (Joanna), David (JoAnn), Michele (Robert Lesniak), and Paul (Debra), and a proud grandfather of 14, as well as a great-grandfather to two. His grandchildren remember him fondly for his unwavering support, encouragement, and the wisdom he imparted throughout his life.

In addition to his family, Sam served his country honorably in the Navy during the Korean War, receiving his discharge in 1953. His work ethic was unparalleled; he retired after 25 years at Condec and later contributed to his son’s businesses, Albany Pools and City Laundromat, reflecting his commitment to hard work and family legacy.

Sam was a man of faith, having been an altar server at St. Anthony’s Church and a long-time communicant at St. Luke’s Church. His family gatherings were filled with joy, as he cherished the simple pleasures of life.

The family expresses profound gratitude to Dr. Parag Parikh for his exceptional care, and special thanks to Community Hospice and dedicated nurses, Lou Brown and Paul Thomas, for their compassionate support.

Visitation for friends and family will take place on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Cannon/Jones Funeral Home, located at 2020 Central Ave, Colonie. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday at 1:00 p.m. at St. Luke’s Church in Schenectady, followed by entombment at Memory Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to Community Hospice, located at 310 S. Manning Blvd., Albany, NY 12208, honoring Sam’s legacy of love and community.

This sudden news has left a void in the hearts of those who knew him, and his legacy will continue to inspire generations to come. For condolences, visit www.jonesfuneralny.com.
